Shaker Trace Seed Nursery produces native plant seed for Great Parks of Hamilton County’s restoration projects. To increase the visibility and impact of the nursery in the region, Great Parks decided to improve the site’s facilities and educational opportunities and make them more accessible to visitors. Human Nature, in collaboration with Emersion Design and a top notch design team, developed a campus master plan for the site that includes new seed storage and processing facilities, office space, a 19th century barn converted to an event center, a new greenhouse, and a new public parking area. The campus buildings surround a courtyard with trees, picnic tables, and seating for small and large groups. A new multi-use path connects the core area to the existing Shaker Trace path located within Miami-Whitewater Park. A smaller pedestrian path enables visitors to walk through the production beds and experience first-hand the variety of native plant species that are grown on the site. The project is pursuing LEED Gold and Sustainable SITES Gold certifications.
