North Avondale Neighborhood Plan

CLIENT: City of Cincinnati

LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH

SCOPE: Neighborhood Plan

Human Nature collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team including Urban Fast Forward, CUDA Studio, and Illumine Transportation, the City of Cincinnati, North Avondale Neighborhood Association, and the community to update the 1974 neighborhood plan as the foundational document, long-term vision for the community and roadmap for future investment. Human Nature focused on North Avondale’s existing greenspace assets specifically Seasongood Square and Dr. MLK Jr. Park - and identified how these spaces can play unique roles as living rooms and gathering spaces for the North Avondale community. Dr. MLK Jr. Park has the potential to become the active living room for the neighborhood with a proposed plaza, gardens, event green / multi-purpose lawn, pavilion/stage, a walk with shade trees, lighting, bench seating, playground/sprayground, sport courts, community gardens, invasive clearing, and a woodland trail. Enhancements to Seasongood Square could further enhance its role in the community as a place for rest, engagement, and discovery. Proposed improvements include entrance gardens, enhanced pathways with bench seating and lighting, discovery/sensory gardens and living rooms, a family-friendly restroom, playground/sprayground, and a pavilion/bandstand.
