Human Nature collaborated with Strand Associates, PRUS Construction, the City of Mt. Healthy, and a project steering committee to re-imagine Mt. Healthy’s central spine and create a master plan for the core uptown district. The process involved an inventory/analysis of existing conditions, exploration of conceptual streetscape improvements, and a rendered vision of the corridor. Coordination with ODOT allowed the master plan to feature reduced driving lane widths that reduce vehicular speed, improve pedestrian safety, and increase frontage for all properties along the corridor. Bump outs and raised pedestrian crossings were also proposed to slow traffic, improve pedestrian safety, and celebrate intersections. The project team coordinated with Metro to propose enhancements to existing bus stops and incorporate the future BRT station into the vision. Street trees, lighting, furnishings, and paving were proposed in ways that celebrate the community’s historic fabric along this corridor while also providing sense of place improvements. The plan also recommended activating the many alleyways and greenspaces that are located along the corridor to create vibrant spaces for the community.
