Mill Creek Greenway
CLIENT: Louisville Parks and Recreation
LOCATION: Louisville, KY
SCOPE: Conceptual Master Plan
Human Nature collaborated with AOB Consulting, Strand Associates, and Louisville Parks and Recreation
on a conceptual master plan for the Mill Creek Greenway, 8 miles of urban waterway and approximately
1,000 acres of publicly owned land located in the southwestern floodplains of Louisville, Kentucky. The team
collaborated with residents and community stakeholders at each step of the process to create a plan that
brings new life to this corridor and celebrates its unique sense of place. The result is a roadmap for a new
public greenway that provides access to nature, recreation, and connectivity to other community assets to
an underserved area of the city.
Recommendations include connecting to and recreating along the greenway with a continuous 10 mile
accessible trail; recreation destinations at primary hubs/parks/open space; and opportunities to access the
stream corridor and its habitats. Recommendations for improving the ecology along the greenway include
coordinating with the stream restoration project; protecting/restoring forest cover along trails; design
hubs to minimize ecological footprints and include habitat enhancements; and create opportunities to
experience wildlife/nature while avoiding negative impacts to ecosystems.
