Kenton County Park
CLIENT: Kenton County
LOCATION: Independence, KY
SCOPE: Master Planning
Human Nature developed a park master plan for a former 225 acre golf course. The site consists of alternating grassy ridges and forested valleys that define large landscape rooms. The master plan works with this topography to create different use areas for each ridge and valley. Overall, the park design emphasizes adventure recreation opportunities, such as mountain biking, hiking, ropes courses, ziplining, disc golf, and a skate park. The park will also include a small lake for fishing, a community gathering space, a dog park, nature-based playgrounds, and a nature/event center. Art work will be scattered around the park to attract visitors to the park and to provide destinations for hikers. The streams in the forested valleys will be restored to improve their appearance, health, and habitat value. Much of the existing lawn areas will be replaced with native pollinator meadows to provide habitat for birds, insects, and other species. An extensive trail system will provide visitors a variety of experiences, views, and levels of difficulty. The park is intended to be a recreational hub and destination for the county and the region.
