Central Parkway

CLIENT: Central Parkway Stakeholder Group

LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH

SCOPE: Conceptual Design & Visualization

Human Nature led a multidisciplinary team and a group of key stakeholders from the community through a master planning process that yielded a bold new vision for this prominent section of Central Parkway in the historic urban core of Cincinnati. The team included the Kleingers Group and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The key stakeholders included the City of Cincinnati, FC Cincinnati, representatives of the West End and Over the Rhine Community Councils, the Music Hall Association, and prominent property owners along the corridor. The vision seeks to transform the street from a major barrier that divides two adjoining neighborhoods into a place of union where the community comes together. A major road diet, generous crossings, widened sidewalks, enhanced bike facilities, gathering spaces, and unique placemaking strategies are key elements of the plan. A particular emphasis is placed upon major intersections and two landmark assets in the nucleus of the corridor - Music Hall and the new FC Cincinnati Soccer Stadium. The placemaking strategies seek to celebrate the unique cultural stories of the two neighborhoods, as well as the parkway’s history as an old subway and part of the Miami-Erie Canal.
