For several years, Human Nature has been leading a multi-disciplinary team to incrementally transform the streetscape environment at the Banks to support a vibrant and dynamic riverfront district. Early visioning for the district defined priorities, form language, and material palette that balance unifying elements that strengthen the district brand with diversifying elements that express the unique tenant identities. Phase 1 components, including the Second Street planter- railing barrier, Freedom Way planters, and overhead light canopy, enhance the pedestrian experience - during civic events as well as day to day. Future components include transforming on-street parking spaces into civic “parklets,” a performance stage overlooking the Roebling Bridge, and dramatic gateway lighting and signage that stitch together the riverfront with Downtown Cincinnati. These current and future plans boldly capture contemporary life on the river.
