SD1 Public Service Park

project description

Human Nature led the master planning and site design for this park, in collaboration with Humpert-Wolnitzek Architects, so that the Northern Kentucky Sanitation District (SD1) could serve as a regional model for stormwater best management practices (BMPs). Features of the site include: a green roof, permeable pavements, wetland filters, enhanced bioretention pond, a stormwater garden and outdoor classroom for teaching, an above-ground aqueduct and cistern for the storage and reuse of rainwater, trails, an amphitheater, two overlooks to the Banklick Creek, and a tribute to those in public service. The facility is open to the public and serves as a laboratory for teaching the next generations of children, developers, local communities and public agencies for caring about our water resources.
